SMC-RP seeks consolation
SMC-RP managed to get an overtime victory in the FIBA-Asia classification matches over the National team of Syria 107-100.
Stripped off the chance to be part of the next Olympics, San Miguel Pilipinas is now playing in Group G with Kuwait, India and Syria.
Jordan ends SMC-RP’s Olympic bid
It was a bitter pill to swallow. A real heartbreaker. It is the end for the losing team of the match.
Unfortunately the Philippine National Basketball team is still not fully equipped as they take on the road to the ‘Olympic Dream’ as Jordan eliminates San Miguel Pilipinas 84-76 in the FIBA-Asia.
SMC-RP’s ‘Olympic Dream’ didn’t really turn out as a nightmare. The Filipino cagers worked really hard and did their best and that’s a good consolation.
Maybe next time we could see a Philippine Basketball team in the Olympics. Maybe next time we could see a more competitive National team where we could see the likes of Arwind Santos, Larry Fonacier, Enrico Villanueva, Jervy Cruz and Yousif Aljamal… I say put more pure pinoys in the team right?
I never liked Chot Reyes. Don’t know why, I just do.
Jimmy Alapag was great, I was really impressed with his performance. As well as Kelly Williams. Gabe Norwood’s good but he’s still young. Mark Caguioa, Asi Taulava and Dondon Hontiveros, they’re great too. Danny Seigle didn’t get much action though, still a bit rusty because the injury but I’m still a fan. Jayjay Helterbrand and Kerby Raymundo got their share of the spotlight. Mick Pennisi, Erik Menk and Renren Ritualo didn’t get much action as well. I think I mentioned all of them.
But hey, they tried right? And let’s just hope we’ll get it next time. Keep supporting them. Win or lose.

Team Philippines survives China
San Miguel Pilipinas defeated the younger and taller national team of China 79-74. SMC-RP still has a chance to get pass through the Olympic qualifier if they manage to win over Syria in the next game.
China didn’t seem to bother winning their games in the FIBA-Asia tournament as they already have a sure slot in the Olympics being the host country of the said event.
UAAP 70 team standings (as of 072907)
UE 5-0 NU 3-3
ADMU 4-2 UST 3-3
DLSU 4-2 AdU 0-5
FEU 3-2 UP 0-5
The DLSU Green Archers nailed an overtime victory over the defending champion UST Growling Tigers 90-86. Meanwhile, Ateneo didn’t soar over FEU 64-77.
UE continues to show their power and thirst for the championship defeating the less experienced team of UP 97-66 to retain the top spot in the tally board, while NU clipped a 91-76 victory over AdU.
SMC-RP off to a bad start in FIBA-Asia
The national team of Iran defeated San Miguel Pilipinas 75-69 in the opening of the FIBA-Asia.
Team Philippines struggled throughout the game losing six key players in the run. Dondon Hontiveros was ejected for an unsportsmanship foul, Mark Caguioa and Gabe Norwood fouled out, and Asi Taulava, Danny Seigle and Jimmy Alapag for injuries. Aside from that, a referee called a technical at the Philippine bench giving the other team the advantage.
It was a rough start for team Philippines and in order to get through this tournament they must win in the succeeding matches against China and Jordan.
Fonacier in San Miguel?
An article appeared yesterday saying that Larry Fonacier might be part of the San Miguel Beermen in the next PBA conference. If that will happen, he will join his fellow Ateneo cagers Wesley Gonzales, LA Tenorio, Enrico Villanueva and Olsen Racela.

FIBA-Asia starts tomorrow. Let’s support team Philippines.
